Before you apply

Barnardos Children’s Support Program (BCSP) Achieve opens on 3rd October 2017 and closes on 15th December 2017. Please read the following details carefully before applying.

Who is eligible to apply?

To receive a Achieve grant of up to $5,000 per school.

  • The program supports children aged 4-18 years.
  • The program takes applications from schools in Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania.
  • Schools must be registered with their relevant government education department within Australia.
  • Open to Primary Schools, High Schools and K-12 Schools.
  • Open to schools with an Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) of 1000 or below.
  • Schools are to spend grant funding between 1st March 2018 and 31st December 2018.
  • Only members of school staff can apply.

No applications will be considered from a school with outstanding acquittals for previous BCSP grants.

Terms and conditions

We would really like to help all disadvantaged children with their educational pursuits, however, we have a limited pool of funds available. As such, we need to apply the following limitations, terms and conditions.

Exclusions:

  • General fundraising projects or appeals.
  • Other foundations, trusts, charities and philanthropic organisations.
  • Sub-contracted or auspicing of applications will not be accepted. The school applying must be involved in delivering the program. They can be in a partnership with other schools or community organisations but the school granted the funding will be held responsible for the use of the money and the acquittal.
  • Applications are not accepted for retrospective funding activities i.e. projects that are already underway.
  • Applications will not be accepted from parents.
  • No overseas travel for excursions, tours or school exchange programs will be considered.

Terms and Conditions:

  • No applications will be accepted by mail.
  • All applications must be via the SmartyGrants online application form.
  • Only schools with an ICSEA of 1000 or below are eligible to apply.
  • Each applicant must include their ICSEA number, which is available from the MySchool website. (Where an ICSEA is not available from this website, the application should include the code 111 instead).No incomplete or inaccurate forms will be considered.
  • Closing dates for applications are listed on the site and may change from time to time without notice.
  • The Principal or Director of the school must be aware of this application and its purpose. They must be informed that this application has been submitted.
  • The decision of the BCSP Achieve is final on all applications.
  • Applicants will be notified via email regarding the result of their application.
  • Applicants must use their Application ID number in all correspondence with the BCSP team.
  • Unsuccessful applications will not be automatically considered in a subsequent grant round. You must re-apply for consideration of another grant.
  • All successful applicants will be required to complete a Grant Agreement form online before the grant is paid directly into the school's bank account. No other bank details will be accepted.
  • NSW schools are required to raise a sales order with the Department of Education and will be paid via SAP invoice.
  • The school's relevant registration number will be required if the application is successful.
  • One (1) single payment for the total of the awarded grant will be distributed to successful applicants.
  • Funds must be spent on the agreed project, event or activity. Any unspent funds must be returned to Barnardos Australia immediately. Requests for changes in completion dates, etc. must be made to Barnardos Australia.
  • Return to Barnardos Australia any unexpended funds in accordance with the statement of expenditure as per your acquittal (or earlier if known).
  • Acknowledgement of the funding provided by Barnardos Australia and HSBC is to be stated in any media coverage or promotional activities related to the project, activity or event for which the funding has been received.
  • Grant recipients indemnify Barnardos Australia and HSBC insofar as any activities relevant to the funding are concerned.
  • All grant recipients are required to provide an acquittal report within three (3) months of the completion date of their project as provided on the application form. The acquittal must accurately indicate how the grant funding was used.
  • The last date Acquittals can be submitted is 31st March 2019. Any school that has not submitted their acquittal for this date will be required to return the funds granted.
  • Requests may be made to schools to participate in media activities to promote BCSP Achieve. Should this occur, we aim not to identify any particular students involved.

Dates and stages

3 October 2017 - Grant round opens.

15 December 2017 - Grant round closes.

19 January 2018 - Applications reviewed.

16 February 2018 - Schools informed of decision.
Successful applications sent agreements to read and sign.

16 March 2018 - School returns approved agreements.

31 March 2018 - Payments made to schools.

31 March 2018 - Grant acquittals completed by schools.
(due no later than 3 months after the project completed)

1 March to 31 December 2018 - New project period.
